A boar with a chicken’s consumption index

1.54: this is the consumption index not of a chicken, but of the best EXCELIUM boar specially selected on the consumption index.

While the French average in production production is around 2.85, that of the total population of EXCELIUM animals is 2.10. This new record at 1.54 IC 30-115kg is a testament to the very sustained selection effort on the food efficiency of pig lines at CHOICE GENETICS. Food efficiency is the number one key to the Natural Concept.

The EXCELIUM boar was launched at SPACE 2017 and many users are won over. Sales are up 30 per quarter. Early users appreciate the good vigour of piglets in maternity wards. Thanks to this vigour, losses under mothers are well below average. The field results confirm that this boar is complete: it combines TMP, growth and excellent IC.

As a reminder, the consumption index (IC) is the amount of food ingested by an animal to gain one kilogram of live weight.

Pioneer of the “zero antibiotic”

For 25 years, on the whole of its pig farming, our partner GAEC Chiron, installed in Vendée, multiplier for Choice of the parent cochette CG36 is in a “zero antibiotic” approach.

On the whole farm: in maternity, post-weaning or fattening, the exclusive use of natural products is required. The use of antibiotics remains very rare.

The explanation lies in the fact that the fundamentals of breeding and the application of walking forward to maintain a good health status are applied. The credo at Gaec is that it is better to use the high-pressure washing machine than the syringe!

What are the trends in pork consumption?

This was the theme of the day co-organized on June 13th in Lérida, Spain by Choice and UPB, its distributor for the Iberian Peninsula.

There was a full room for this event bringing together the majority of players in the Spanish pork sector. Integrators, packers, processors, food suppliers, and producers responded to the invitation. Interventions in the North American and Asian markets by Dr. Chad Stahl, a meat quality specialist at Choice and based in the United States, and Jérémie Renaud of Bleu-Blanc Coeur on consumer trends in Europe have attracted a lot of interest.
